Eastern Redbud Blossoms
It seems like all of the flowers in Franklin Park were in bloom today! I took a bunch of photos this afternoon and decided to post this one of Eastern Redbud flowers. A redbud tree in bloom is one of my favorite signs of spring! The Eastern Redbud tree is small in size and has lovely heart shaped leaves.
To learn more about Redbud, check out Virgina Tech's dendrology fact sheet.
Or, if you're feeling adventurous, read this blog post about eating Redbud flowers by urban homesteader (and instructor for cooking classes at the Conservatory), Rachel Tayse Baillieul. Both Redbud flowers and young seedpods are edible!
