Last month Kenneth and I enjoyed an evening in downtown Columbus for WaterFire and the Moonlight Market on Gay Street!
Since we arrived a little before WaterFire was to begin, we walked through the Moonlight Market first. Vendors were set up on the sidewalks and several shops stayed open late between Front and 3rd Street. The market was pretty busy and we saw lots of great work offered by the vendors, including crafts, artwork and other home items, clothes and lots of delicious food! We sampled some fantastic salsa from Game Time Salsa and I enjoyed an amazing cucumber-lime-mint popsicle from J Pops! Check out all of the creative J Pops flavors and the story behind the company (it was founded as a way to raise money for relief efforts in Japan after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami) on their website.
The Moonlight Market has one more event for 2013 on Saturday, September 14. The market has been held on the second Saturday of every month, April to September. You can check out a list of vendors here - be sure to make it out next month!
On our way back to the riverfront for WaterFire, we spotted some awesome street art!
We made it back to WaterFire just as the fire braziers were being lit. We watched from the promenade on the Scioto Mile. There were a ton of people on the promenade and across the river at Genoa Park (in front of COSI). Individuals, families with children and young and old couples walked the promenade or sat and watched the festivities. As the sun set, the promenade was lit up in a beautiful rosy glow, highlighting the tropical plants and whimsical fish fountains. It was beautiful!
We stayed on the promenade and watched a few fires being lit (and the ducks and geese avoiding the boats in the river - there were a lot of them!) before walking down the promenade and crossing the Rich Street Bridge to Genoa Park. The riverfront smelled like a summer bonfire! Overall it was a fun event which included musical performances by Grassinine and The Floorwalkers.
WaterFire has four more events coming up this summer on Friday, August 16, Friday, September 6, Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28. Check it out!
